NOTICE TO SEAMEN ON BRITISH SHIPS.

The attention of seamen is called to the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1906, which applies to seamen who are members of the crew of any ship regis- tered in the United Kingdom or of any other British ship of which the owner, managing owner or manager resides or has his principal place of business in the United Kingdom.

The Act provides for compensation to seamen who through accidents arising out of and in the course of their employment are disabled from earning their ordinary wages, or if the accident results in death, for com- pensation to any persons who are dependent on the deceased. The person liable to pay this compensation

is the owner or owners of the ship.

Notice of the accident must be given as soon as practicable except when the accident happened and the incapacity commenced on board the ship, in which case no notice is required.

The claim for compensation must be made within six months from the occurrence of the accident causing the injury and in case of death within 6 months after news of the death has been received by the claimant.

Notice of the accident and the claim for compensation may be served on the master of the ship.

Legal proceedings for the recovery of the compensa- tion can only be taken in the United Kingdom.

Persons having claims, should (seek legal advice) (consult a lawyer) as to the proper method of recovering any compensation due to them.
